Gogo brutally murdered & spaza shop looted in North West after missing girl’s charred remains found! An elderly woman was tragically murdered in Magogong village, Taung, in the North West province after being accused of involvement in the disappearance and murder of an 11-year-old girl.
The girl had gone missing on October 13, and her body was later found, sparking outrage in the community that led to violent retaliation against the elderly woman.
According to the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, the elderly woman was believed by some members of the community to have knowledge of the young girl’s whereabouts after her disappearance.

Once the girl’s body was discovered, tensions flared, and in a devastating turn of events, the woman was attacked and killed. In addition to this brutal murder, her property was set on fire by an angry mob.
The case has drawn widespread condemnation from local authorities, who are now urging for calm and calling for a thorough investigation into both murders.

North West MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Wessels Morweng, expressed his deep dismay at the violence and criminal activity that unfolded in the village following the tragic loss of the young girl. He emphasized the importance of allowing law enforcement to handle the investigation rather than resorting to vigilantism.
“The charred lifeless body of the missing girl was discovered. An elderly woman accused of knowing the whereabouts of the young girl was killed, and her property torched,” Morweng said, adding that he “strongly” condemns the actions of those who took matters into their own hands.
He emphasized that such behavior only serves to worsen an already tragic situation.
In addition to the attack on the elderly woman, the violent response from the community also resulted in looting, including the destruction of a tuck shop in the area.
Morweng expressed his disappointment in the lawlessness and urged the people of Magogong to show restraint while police conduct their investigation.
“I humbly plead with the community of Magogong not to take the law into their own hands and urge police to ensure that they leave no stone unturned,” Morweng said, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive investigation into both the murder of the child and the subsequent killing of the elderly woman.
He also called on anyone with information regarding the incidents to come forward and assist the police in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The police have yet to make any arrests in connection with either murder, and the motive behind the killing of the 11-year-old girl remains unclear. Investigators are actively pursuing leads to determine what led to the child’s death, while also addressing the escalating violence within the community.
The brutal murder of the elderly woman, falsely accused of being linked to the crime, adds an additional layer of tragedy to an already heart-wrenching case.
In response to the violence, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has heightened its presence in the area to prevent further unrest.
The increased police visibility is aimed at maintaining order and ensuring the safety of residents as the investigation progresses. Authorities are also hoping that their heightened presence will deter any additional acts of vigilantism in the community.
Community leaders and authorities have urged residents to remain calm and allow the justice system to take its course. They emphasized that taking the law into their own hands can lead to irreversible consequences and further grief, as seen in the tragic death of the elderly woman.
Morweng, in particular, called for cooperation between the community and law enforcement, stressing that any information provided could prove crucial in resolving the case swiftly and effectively.
As the police continue their investigations, both the community and the families of the victims are left to grapple with the trauma of these senseless deaths. The tragic events in Magogong serve as a reminder of the dangers of vigilantism and the need for peaceful, lawful resolutions in the face of tragedy.
