Carletonville crash driver Gert van Emmenis set to return to court

The man accused of culpable homicide after his car collided with a scholar transport vehicle killing eleven children is expected back in court on Tuesday morning.
In July, Gert van Emmenis’ car rammed into a minibus taxi, killing the learners and their driver instantly in Carletonville.
Eight other occupants were rushed to hospital following the tragedy.
Earlier this year, Van Emmenis was granted R20,000 bail by the Fochville Magistrates Court.
During his first appearance, Van Emmenis accepted the State’s bail conditions, agreeing to surrender his passport and avoid contacting any witnesses.
The crash, which occurred in early July, saw Van Emmenis’ Ford Ranger rear-end a minibus taxi, sending it spiralling before it burst into flames.
Most victims, tragically burned beyond recognition, were laid to rest in a mass funeral soon after his arrest.
Tuesday’s court proceedings are expected to focus on the progress of the investigation.
