Premier Winde pushes for probes into George building collapse to wrap up this year

Almost four months since the tragic George building collapse, some of the ongoing investigations into the matter are yet to provide an update.
On 6 May, an unfinished apartment caved in on 62 people, killing 34 construction workers who were on site.
Massive probes into the incident were launched by, among others, SAPS, the Department of Employment and Labour, the Department of Human Settlements, and the Home Builders Registration Council — all of whom are yet to provide the province with an update.
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde called on all stakeholders to speed up their investigations.
“We’ve agreed that we will write to the other organisations that are busy with investigations; we know that SAPS and the Department of Labour are busy with investigations. We really need to make sure that we wrap up these investigations, so that consequences for the cause of this building collapse can follow through. I think everyone wants closure ASAP, and hopefully we get this done this year.”
