Gauteng’s three metros still experiencing water woes & no supply in some areas

Despite the conclusion of a planned 50-hour maintenance project at the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant, water supply is still an issue in all of Gauteng’s three metros.

Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, and the City of Tshwane are all still dealing with supply challenges.

Rand Water says its concern is the Palmiet Pumping Station, which was pumping at 68% of its capacity despite the system being on the recovery path.

Critical reservoirs supplied by the Palmiet system include Klipriviersberg, Germiston, Meyershill, Airfield, Klipfontein, Brakfontein, and Haartbeeshoek.

Owing to Rand Water’s mass infrastructure project – which started at the beginning of this month and is set to end next week – some of these reservoirs are experiencing critically low levels

This has led to low pressure due to a lack of water supply in some areas, particularly high-lying sections.

Rand Water has put various interventions in place to stabilize the system. However, a date for full water restoration has not been set.
