SA violence: Government revises number of people killed in KZN & Gauteng unrest to 330

The police have again revised the body count following last week’s rolling violence and looting.

On Thursday, they reported the number of dead people in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal to be 337.

But on Friday, that number has gone down to 330.

Acting Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshaveni said: “Some deaths that were previously included, were not related to the unrest. The number of deaths is revised when there is a positive confirmation that the death is related to the incident. Given the nature and extent of the deaths in the provinces, police are continuously checking that they have full confirmation that the deaths are indeed related to the unrest.”
