MEC Mamabolo to meet with Gauteng taxi groups on Sunday

At least six taxis have been torched in and around the Johannesburg CBD on Saturday.

Gauteng Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo has condemned the criminal acts.

He is laid the blame on the leaders of two taxi associations.

Mamabolo said, “four taxis have been burned in the CBD of city of JHB Carlton centre area, it has just been reported that there are more two taxis in Elias Motsoaledi street in Soweto that have been torched as well.”

“We have had reports that there are people that have sustained injuries facts are verified by law enforcement. At this point, I would like to strongly condemn this horrendous and barbaric acts of criminality, perpetrated by taxi industry leaders in NANDUWE and WATA.”

“We have convened a meeting with provincial leaders, of their mother body structures Santaco and GNGA, we will be meeting with the early in the morning tomorrow . They are coordinating their members. We condemn these barbaric acts of violence.”

“There is no justification for whatever their grievances or issues are. they have put lives of human beings at risk. we believe the taxi industry must appreciate that taxi violence has never helped them in the past it is not helping them currently and will not help them in future.”

“They must stop and refrain from threatening human lives, stability, and peace in our province.”
