Gauteng police probing deaths of 3 siblings who fell ill at school

Gauteng police have launched an investigation into the deaths of three siblings who fell ill at a school in Evaton.

On Monday, Tshepiso Tsotetsi in grade 3, Moeketsi Mokhatla in grade 4, and Rethabile Mokhatla in grade 5 arrived at Evaton Primary School where they presented symptoms, including nausea and body aches.

They were rushed to a local clinic by teachers where they were declared dead on the scene.

The Gauteng Education Department, together with the school, conveyed their condolences to the children’s mother, Dibuseng Mokhatla.

Local police have instituted a focused probe into the cause of the tragedy.

Spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko said they had not ruled out the possibility of foul play.

“A case of inquest has been opened and investigations are underway.”
