Gauteng police establish a specialized team to tackle crime in Tshwane

In an effort to reduce crime in Tshwane, Gauteng police have established a specialized team to tackle rampant crime in the metro.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni shared the beefing up efforts during a media briefing in the capital on Thursday.
Mthombeni said the tactical team would be deployed to problematic areas including Jukulyn, Soshanguve, Mabopane, and Mamelodi.
“We have since arrested 28 suspects ranging from car hijacking, kidnapping, attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”
While the province continues to struggle with excessive crime, Mthombeni expressed pride in the accomplishments of his first 100 days in office, saying dozens of arrests and breakthroughs have been made.
He said working closely with national police and various departments at local level fast-tracked the service’s ability to fulfil its constitutional mandate.
Although Tshwane has seen a spike in criminality over the past few months, Mthombeni said police have not lost focus on other hotspots in the province.
