Gauteng police arrest one suspect in Soweto child’s murder
Gauteng police have arrested one suspect linked to the kidnapping and murder of a four-year-old child in Soweto.
A community member spotted the suspect while walking in the streets of Protea Glen on Wednesday.
Police confirmed that they opened a case of murder after the 4-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
The child was found in a travelling bag early last month.
It is understood that the child was playing outside with her friends, before her mother realized that she was missing.
She began to search for her child within the complex and noticed that one of the tenants was moving out and demanded to search her bags.
She then discovered her child gagged and bound.
The suspect fled the scene but has since been arrested.
“She is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Friday, facing charges of kidnapping and murder,” said Provincial Police Spokesperson Mavela Masondo.
