Gauteng police not ruling out possibility of new syndicate in operation after spate of CIT heists
Gauteng police are not ruling out the possibility of a new syndicate of robbers following a spate of cash-in-transit heists in the province.
A gang pulled off a brazen heist in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, on Wednesday.
It’s understood the group fired gunshots at the guards before using explosives to bomb the armoured vehicle near the Mandela Sports Complex.
The police’s Amanda van Wyk said the criminals made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
“A cash van and his two crew members were driving along Hamman Road in Hammanskraal from the N1 freeway when they were intercepted by a group of armed suspects who rammed into the cash van with a silver Mercedes-Benz.”
In a separate incident two weeks ago, police foiled an attempted heist in Dobsonville, Soweto, where two people died.
