Gauteng Education Dept to visit school for fact-finding mission after the drowning of two pupils

The Gauteng Department of Education will visit the Daveyton Skills School in Benoni for what it called a fact-finding mission about the drowning of two pupils.
The boys, aged 13 and 16, drowned during a discipline camp at the Rock Falls Adventure Ranch in Centurion on Monday.
It’s believed the trip was organized by a non-profit organization (NPO).
The department said one of the pupils drowned while trying to rescue another learner.
Conveying his condolences to the boys’ bereaved families and school community at large, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane added that the tragedy deeply saddened him.
The department said Wednesday’s visit would serve as a means to uncover the circumstances that led to the unfortunate tragedy.
In an attempt to mitigate the adverse effects the incident may have on learners, teachers, and parents, the department has made support available.
