Gauteng Education Dept supports signing of BELA Bill

The Gauteng Department of Education has added its voice to those who are encouraging President Cyril Ramaphosa to continue with the signing of the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill despite the Democratic Alliance’s threat that the signing will weaken the government of national unity (GNU).
The Department joins unions SADTU and NAPTOSA in welcoming the signing of the bill. They have praised the bill for making early childhood education compulsory for all children.
Gauteng Education says they see the bill as a huge boost for transformation in the sector. Gauteng Education, Sport, Arts, Culture & Recreation MEC Matome Chiloane says language policies will no longer be used as a tool to keep children out of certain schools.
