Panyaza Lesufi: New police boss for Ga-Rankuwa police station to bolster crime-fighting efforts
Disgruntled Ga-Rankuwa residents have accused the City of Tshwane of prioritizing service delivery in suburban communities and neglecting townships.
On Wednesday, community members voiced their frustrations to Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Tshwane Mayor Cillers Brink during 702’s election townhall.
Some residents said they had gone months without water, while electricity woes remained a cause for concern.
They questioned the municipality’s slow turnaround time for attending to power outages and water leaks in the township.
The Ga-Rankuwa police station’s inability to fully service the community is one of the main concerns raised by several residents during the engagement.
An elderly resident said it was upsetting to see crime in the area infiltrating local schools.
“We have a lot of violence in schools, we have a lot of bullying, drug abuse, and attacks on teachers by learners.”
Lesufi said the electricity crisis at the Ga-Rankuwa police station would soon be a thing of the past.
“We have just appointed a commissioner for Ga-Rankuwa police station, and we ordered them to ensure the police station has sustained electricity at all times. We also told them to ensure there’s a solar for backup.”
He said the provincial government would not fold its arms and watch crime destroy the community.
