This is your opportunity to manage the day to day running of
a well-established fruit farm situated in the picturesque Piketberg area.
The farm consists of 28ha of which 17.64 ha consists of stone fruit and 11.07 ha of pome fruit. Boegoe and tea of about 25ha and Proteas of 15ha. makes up the rest, roughly covering 70ha.
Candidate Requirements;
Completed Agricultural Diploma/Degree
Minimum of 10 years relevant work-related experience
South African citizen – fluency in Afrikaans and English
It is essential that the person should have knowledge and experience in the application of pesticides, fertilizer, water, planting, soil preparation, nursery irrigation and monitoring of temperatures Computer literate
Technical/Electrical know-how
Excellent Management skills
Own Transport with clear drivers’ licence
Hardworking, committed and loyal person with no hang-ups to go the extra mile
Physically fit and healthy as this is a hands-on position
Duties;
Manage the day to day farm operations as required
Troubleshoot and general maintenance of farm equipment, water pumps, etc
Manage and lead (30/60) staff by example and not be scared to get their hands dirty
Manage the warehouses/nursery
You will harvest fruit from the beginning of November to March, and the flowers start from February. The Tea is cut in January and the boegoe in May.
You will liaise with the technical consultant that visits once a month to give advice about feeding, pruning, ground and leaf analyses and makes general suggestions.
The poison representative visits once a week and gives recommendations regarding the pesticides. Work cards are filled in by the supervisors, but the Manager will have to monitor these and be involved with the process.
Supervise spray and fertilizer programs
Stand-in for Owner as and when needed
Ability to drive a tractor and forklift
Ensure the safety of the farms/staff
