Cops are investigating a murder case following the shooting of a 46-year-old taxi driver. Commuters who were on their way to work were shocked when a taxi driver was shot and killed near Delft South Taxi Rank in Cape Town earlier today (29 March).
A commuter told the publication that she was late for work because of the congestion caused by the incident.
“The taxi blocked the road after the driver was killed. This led to congestion in the area and people going to work being delayed.
“The driver was shot while he was still behind the steering wheel. It was a scary incident,” she said.
“Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident at Owen Madikane Street, Delft, on Tuesday, 29 March, at about 4.25am are under investigation.
“According to reports, police officers who responded to the incident found the body of a 46-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was declared dead by paramedics.
“The motive of the incident is yet to be determined. No arrest has been made,” he said.
Cops are urging the public to help them with information to apprehend the killers.
“A murder case has been registered for investigation. Anyone with information should contact Delft police on t 021 954 9011 or 082 522 2036. Alternatively, they can call CrimeStop on 08600 10111,” said Van Wyk.
Congress for Democratic Taxi Associations (Codeta) spokesman Andile Khanyi, said he heard about the incident but the dead didn’t belong to their organization.
“If he was from Codeta, I would have known by now,” he said.
Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association spokesman, Nkululeko Sityebi, said: “I have not heard about the incident. If the dead man is from our organization, I will be informed about it.”
