Concern over damaged matric papers following Free State storm

The Basic Education Department says matric exam papers in the Free State were damaged in a storm this week.

The department’s Elijah Mhlanga says they need to assess the extent of the damage and impact before making any major announcements.

Markers were in the marking centre as the storm hit, and are receiving counseling.

Mhlanga did confirm that pupils will not be penalized.
