Lesotho MPs debating a motion to reclaim the Free State
Lesotho is debating a motion to reclaim the Free State Province, and other parts of South Africa, as part of the Lesotho Kingdom. The motion was put forward by opposition MP, Tsepo Lipholo, from the Basotho Convenient Movement.
The motion is based on a 1962 United Nations resolution, which recognised the right to self-determination and independence.
Lipholo says he is waiting to hear whether there can be counter-evidence from what he has presented. He argued from three points, historical perspective, political and legal evidence.
Lipholo says the problem started in 1652 when the white settlers occupied the land. SABC’s Rapelang Radebe gives a historical background.
