Four Pakistanis Arrested by Military for Alleged Links to Terrorism

The Nigerian military has apprehended four Pakistani nationals suspected of involvement in terrorist activities linked to insurgent groups operating in the North-East. The arrests were confirmed by the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, during a media briefing with defence correspondents on Wednesday.

Maj. Gen. Abubakar disclosed that preliminary investigations indicate the foreign nationals were allegedly engaged in arms trafficking and were providing combat training to militant groups, including Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

He described the development as part of an emerging international threat that is fueling terrorism in the region and intensifying violence against both military and civilian populations.

“The presence of foreign mercenaries in our operational zones has significantly escalated the capabilities of terrorist groups like ISWAP and Boko Haram,” Abubakar said. “These individuals bring with them advanced tactical expertise — from drone operations used for surveillance and strikes to the fabrication of highly complex improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and ambush planning.”

He said the arrest of the four suspects marked a major breakthrough in the military’s efforts to uncover and dismantle the transnational networks that supply and empower local insurgent groups.

“These Pakistani nationals are believed to be deeply entrenched in arms dealing and technical support for terror operations,” Abubakar noted. “Their capture opens a window into the broader international links that sustain the insurgency and pose a threat not only to Nigeria but to the entire region.”

The commander stressed the need for enhanced international collaboration, saying that defeating such a far-reaching enemy requires a united global and regional approach. He called for intensified intelligence sharing, border security coordination, and diplomatic engagement among West African nations and global partners.

“We can no longer see this as a local problem,” he warned. “This is a multinational challenge, and only a unified international strategy will be able to cut off the lifelines that feed these terror networks.”

Abubakar further emphasized that the insurgents’ campaign is not restricted to military targets, but rather constitutes an all-out assault on the Nigerian state and its citizens.

“Groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP are waging war against Nigeria as a nation. Their goal is to disrupt our institutions, instill fear among our people, and undermine our sovereignty,” he said. “This is a national emergency, and it demands an all-hands-on-deck response from government, civil society, and ordinary citizens alike.”

Commending the dedication and bravery of Nigerian troops, he acknowledged the harsh and hazardous conditions under which they serve.

Military Arrests Four Pakistanis Over Suspected Terror Ties in North-East

“Our soldiers are stationed in some of the most difficult environments, facing extreme weather, rugged terrain, and constant enemy attacks,” Abubakar said. “Yet they continue to defend this country with unwavering commitment. They are true patriots, and they deserve the highest level of appreciation and support.”

He also called on the Nigerian media to take an active role in building national unity and public awareness, stating that the press is an essential ally in the war against extremism.

“The media is not a passive observer in this fight — it’s a powerful tool in shaping national consciousness and rallying public support,” he stated. “We need the media to amplify the efforts of our troops, inform the public, and counter the narratives pushed by terrorist groups.”

As investigations into the detained Pakistani nationals continue, Abubakar assured the public that the military remains vigilant and is committed to rooting out both local and foreign collaborators involved in terrorism.

“This battle is far from over,” he concluded. “But with unity, stronger international cooperation, and the tireless resolve of our armed forces, Nigeria will prevail.”
