Former correctional services commissioner Linda Mti released from Jail. He briefly appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on charges of corruption yesterday after handing himself over to the police.

The former correctional services national commissioner Linda Mti has been released on R20 000 bail. He was granted R20 000 bail and ordered to hand in his passport.

The corruption charges relate to allegations that he received R65 000 a month from Bosasa to help the company get tenders from the department.

According to the charge sheet, Bosasa allegedly paid flights, accommodation and even a traffic fine in exchange for tenders.

Mti’s court appearance follows that of his co-accused, former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi. Agrizzi, CFO Andries van Tonder, Frans Vorster current Bosasa chief accountant Carlos Bonifacio and former correctional services CFO Patrick Gillingham appeared in court on Wednesday.

They were arrested by the Hawks on charges relating to a 2009 Special Investigation Unit report which showed that Bosasa bribed officials to get prison tenders.

About R1,6 billion is said to have been misappropriated in the tender processes for the procurement of various services by correctional services. Agrizzi and his co-accused were also granted bail of R20 000 each. They are expected back in court on 27 March.
