Five accused of killing two Limpopo ANC leaders to appear in court

Five people including a Member of the Legislature (MPL) in Limpopo, accused of killing two African National Congress (ANC) leaders in Mokopane, are expected to appear in the Polokwane High Court for trial on Friday. The accused are ANC MPL Tally Mashamaite, businessman Petros Mohlabisi, Samuel Mokonyane, Steven Mohlala and Jeffrey Mashishi.

They are accused of killing ANC councillor Vaaltyn Kekana, and party member Ralph Kanyane in the Mogalakwena Municipality three years ago. The court is expected to make arrangement for a trial date when the matter resumes today.

The accused have been charged with two counts of murder, one of conspiracy to commit murder and possession of unlicensed firearm. Kekana and Kanyane were shot and killed while sitting in a vehicle, in what is suspected to be politically hit.

The late Kekana was the chairperson of Municipal Public Account Committee (MPAC) and was allegedly killed before presenting a report on corrupt activities in the municipality.
