A firefighter has fought his last fight – this time against the coronavirus. Makosandile Mbokhwe was one of the longest-serving members of the Cape Town fire department.
The 48-year-old died on Sunday from COVID-19 complications. He was serving as a division commander at the City of Cape Town’s training centre.
His colleagues and the city have paid tribute to him, saying he was an honorable man, who devoted himself to saving lives. He has been described as a gentle giant, whose absence will be felt in the service. Mbhokhwe leaves behind his wife and three children.
