Fire extinguished at Steve Biko Academic Hospital

A fire has been extinguished at Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of Monday morning at a Wendy house used as an in-transit corpse area.

The fire also affected a temporary storage area for COVID-19 medical waste, a temporary isolation unit, and a tent used for triage.

Eighteen patients and bodies were moved.

There were no casualties.
