DA to write to President Ramaphosa over alleged laxity & financial mismanagement at RAF

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will write to President Cyril Ramaphosa demanding intervention over payment delays by the Road Accident Fund (RAF).
The party says it is concerning that the fund continues to face challenges that delay smooth operations.
Last year, Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) described the dire state of the RAF offices following an oversight visit.
SCOPA called for improved document handling for cases to be attended to speedily.
Currently, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa is fighting for its right to strike at the RAF offices.
The union is calling for the resignation of the RAF CEO – Collins Letsoalo.
DA shadow Minister for Transport Chris Hunsinger says accident victims are facing additional distress because of the delays at RAF.
“The situation worsens as communication breakdown persists. Promises made by the RAF are followed up with silence. The SOE’s [state-owned entity] laxity and financial mismanagement, coupled with their reluctance to engage with creditors, now imperil the welfare of patients and victims of accidents.”
