Financial Controller Job Description

Introducing Ozow
Ozow is a simple, real-time EFT payment solution, that allows the consumer access to make secure, instant payments directly into a merchant’s bank account. This payment gateway facilitates transactions via eCommerce, mobile, eBilling, and in-store transactions.
What we need from you
We are looking for a Financial Controller to join our Ozow family. We are a small team; this means that you are going to get exposure to all aspects of our business immediately. You’ll gain as much accountability as you can handle and have a massive influence on scaling the company. The successful applicant will be answerable for all financial control aspects of the business to the CFO.
You will form part of a team to establish and implement control frameworks, system upgrades and enhancements, implement value-added reporting, communicate with internal and external stakeholders, coordinate and participate in projects, and make some of the critical decisions in the finance department.
Requirements:
Qualification – Bcom/Accounting qualification
CA (SA)
At least 2-3 years post articles experience as a financial manager/financial controller
Strong Excel skills
Analytical ability
Preferably big 4 Articles
Ability to function effectively in an entrepreneurial environment
Experience working with Xero advantageous
Experience working within a scale-up/fin-tech environment – advantageous
Responsibilities
Development of financial controls, financial policies, procedures and guidelines, risk assessment and management to ensure that financial risks are identified and addressed
Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, and corporate/overhead cost allocation
Preparation of management accounts, Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Trial Balance
Coordinate the development and monitoring of budget on an annual basis in coordination with various departments
Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed
Ensure accuracy of statistics for onward submission to government / regulatory authorities/ agencies etc.
Review and approval of manual journals
Review and approval of VAT recons
Resolves SARS queries
Attending to statutory auditors’ queries/requests
Assist with quarterly Board reports
Assist with financial reporting, analysis, and forecasts to ensure timely and accurate reporting and planning
Participate in various Committees/meeting (s) as and when required Build and maintain relationships with representatives of government authorities/agencies/ tax advisors / internal and external auditors / financial institutions etc
Mentor and develop a direct team, managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and the building of an effective team dynamic
