Actor Fanele Zulu pops the question
Fanele Zulu has proposed to his girlfriend of three years, Nana Mthethwa.
The 25-year-old, who plays NJ Cele on 1Magic telenovela Lingashoni, said he was nervous when he got down on one knee.
“From day one, I knew she was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I am where I am today in my career because of her,” he said.
“She played a major role in making sure that I didn’t give up on my dreams. She gave me the courage to continue to push. She knew me before I appeared on screen, and when I was sleeping at Park Station and hustling without a place to sleep.”
Fanele said he couldn’t wait to start a family with his fiancee.
“This is a huge step and I wanted to show her that I’m serious.
“The fact that I took this long to propose doesn’t mean anything,” he said.
“I didn’t have the means before, but God has blessed me now and I can’t wait for us to start our family together.
“I don’t believe I’m too young because even if I proposed in five years, it wouldn’t change the fact that I want to spend the rest of my life with her.”
Fanele said he met Nana’s family before he proposed and he was welcomed with open arms.
The actor, who plays an openly gay character, said many people thought he was gay in real life.
“I don’t take offence as it shows that as a performer, I’m doing my job.
“I have represented the gay community well on screen and it warms my heart,” he said.
Fanele said people could still expect a lot more from him as he will appear in a feature film on one of the streaming services.
