Woman bust with fake visas
Police in Bloemfontein, Free State arrested a foreign national for fraud and for running a secret laboratory used to print fake asylum seeker permits.
This after cops spotted a white Honda sedan in the Generaal De Wet suburb on Thursday, 28 September during a police operation, which was stopped and searched.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thabo Covane said cops asked the driver for documentation, but the 32-year-old foreign national presented an application to extend a visa.
However, the police noticed that the date on the document’s police stamp was irregular to the original position in which the stamp was placed.
Covane said the driver voluntarily agreed to lead the cops to the internet cafe where he acquired the affidavit.
“Police arrived at the internet cafe in Charles Street and found a 48-year-old foreign national woman. They introduced themselves to her and asked for permission to search the shop.
“A pile of fake asylum seeker temporary visas, photocopies of similar proof of address letters, and copies of reproduced affidavits similar to the one seized from the first suspect were found. The woman was then arrested for running a secret laboratory for printing fraudulent documents and for fraud,” he said.
Covane said equipment including smartphones, computer boxes, and printers were also confiscated.
“Case dockets were opened at Parkweg Police Station and the suspects were detained in police custody. They are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court soon,” he said.
