City Power to take legal action over fake qualifications allegations

City Power to take legal action over fake qualifications allegations! City Power has announced plans to take legal action following media reports alleging that some of its senior employees submitted fraudulent qualifications and were unlawfully appointed to their positions.
The utility has labelled the article, which was published by News24, as misleading and damaging to the integrity of both the organization and its employees.
City Power
The report specifically accuses a senior manager of using fake qualifications to secure a promotion. However, City Power firmly denies the allegations, saying that due process and strict verification protocols were followed during the hiring process.
City Power CEO Tshifularo Mashava said the utility adheres to rigorous due diligence practices when it comes to verifying academic qualifications for recruitment and promotion.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena further clarified the situation, explaining the chain of command and how the appointment was handled:
“The senior manager in question reports to the general manager within City Power, not directly to the municipal manager or the CEO. Therefore, this position does not fall under section 56 of the Municipal Systems Act, which the journalist referenced.”

He added that the law does not regulate how municipalities should fill non-senior positions, commonly referred to as non-section 56 roles.
City Power insists that the reporting was inaccurate and intended to harm its reputation, and it is now considering legal action to protect the organisation and its staff.
