R900 million extra funding for SAPS and SANDF

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has allocated an additional R900-million to assist the police and the SANDF in keeping peace and security following the recent looting.
Mboweni was giving an update on the relief package that was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday.
“As you are aware, the president has instructed and ordered police and the SANDF to assist in bringing peace and stability, which is important,” Mboweni said.
“To that extent, we are allocating additional amount for the police, some R250-million and R700-million for the SANDF for them to be able to perform and to execute this task which has been given to them by the president of the republic.”
