Vodacom, MTN granted extension to drop data prices

Vodacom and MTN have been given more time to conclude discussions over reducing data prices. In December, the Competition Commission released its Data Services Market Inquiry final report recommending the mobile network giants reduce data prices immediately or face prosecution.

The report also recommended other pro-poor measures. The commission gave Vodacom and MTN two months for further discussions.

It has now decided to extend that deadline by another month. The competition watchdog said engagements are at an advanced stage.
