Gospel powerhouse Hlengiwe Mhlaba has been discharged from hospital and is back at home focusing on her recovery after she was involved in a serious car crash on Saturday afternoon. The crash happened in the town of Melmoth, Northern KwaZulu-Natal. The singer was travelling to Mpumalanga with her keyboard player for a series of gigs, Hlengiwe’s manager Thobile Mchunu tells DRUM.
“They were doing quite a number of gigs this weekend so they we headed to the first festival. She was discharged from hospital yesterday and is back at home resting now,”Thobile says. The singer is taking a break from phone calls and has halted upcoming performances.
Hlengiwe allegedly lost control of her car which resulted in it rolling when she was trying to avoid another vehicle that was driving in her direction. Her spokesperson, Nkululeko Khanye, told SowetanLive, On Saturday it was very wet when the accident happened. Hlengiwe saw a car that was driving straight towards her and tried to avoid it but lost control and the car rolled. Thobile confirmed that although the crash was serious, both Hlengiwe and her keyboard player are doing just fine.
They are both doing really well even though the accident was serious,” she said. Hlengiwe’s passenger sustained minor injuries and only went to the hospital for a checkup before he was discharged on the same day.
