Ex-top cop calls for probe into movement of firearms

Former Western Cape top cop Jeremy Vearey wants the guns used in recent mass tavern shootings tracked.

Over 20 people died as a result of shootings at KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng taverns.

“One would hope that this will not be one of those cases where suspects are just charged with possession of firearms in addition to the murder charges that would be brought,” he said.

“When we deal with cases of an organized criminal nature, we need to track firearms right down how they were trafficked and take down more people in the chain than the people who did the shooting on the scene.”
