eThekwini tender fraud case continues

The defence team in the R320-million eThekwini tender fraud case has accused the city’s investigations head of circumventing supply chain processes in carrying out the probe.

Witness Mbuso Ngcobo insists everything he did that led to the arrest of former mayor Zandile Gumede and others, was above board.

Advocate Jay Naidoo for Gumede and others continued his onslaught against Ngcobo.

Naidoo is trying to prove the head of the city’s integrity and investigations unit flouted certain regulations to ensure the now R320-million corruption probe landed on the desk of Integrity Forensic Solutions.

Naidoo questioned why the matter was not first sent to the municipal disciplinary board.

Ngcobo responded by saying the board’s powers did not extend to fraud and corruption.

Cross-examination will continue on Thursday.
