eThekwini Metro obtains interdict against striking workers

It all seems to be crashing down in Durban.

Many communities are struggling with prolonged water cuts.

And now, eThekwini municipal workers have downed tools.

They are demanding to be paid the same salaries as their counterparts in other metros.

The metro has now obtained a court interdict against the striking workers.

eThekwini municipality spokesperson, Gugu Sisilana, said the municipality will not be held at ransom.

“The interdict restrains any striking employees as well as those who are affiliated to Samwu, against any unlawful conduct, acts of violence,” she said.

“We have seen employees blockading workstations, preventing staff from going about their day. We have seen some employees vandalizing water infrastructure.”
