Eskom is urging consumers to lower electricity usage immediately.
It says the power system is under severe pressure and this could trigger rolling blackouts if consumption is not drastically reduced.
The embattled utility is asking consumers to switch off unnecessary lights, geysers, pool pumps and non-essential appliances.
