Eskom has suspended load-shedding for at least the rest of this week. The power utility confirmed the restoration of sufficient capacity. Lights will be back on from 10pm on Thursday.
However, electricity users are urged to switch-off any power products, not in use. The utility has also been able to replenish emergency reserves which are crucial to protect the national grid, Mantshantsha said.
“This is sufficient to enable Eskom to suspend this period of load shedding from 10 pm,” he said. No-load shedding is expected for the rest of the week, but Eskom urged conservative use of electricity.
Prior to the current bout of load shedding, the power utility had managed to keep the lights on during the lockdown period this far, save for localised rolling blackouts that had been implemented in Gauteng, known as “load rotation”.
