Eskom has announce that it will implement Stage 2 from 9 pm on Saturday. The power cuts will last until 5 am Monday morning. The power utility is also warning that further cuts could be implemented if the situation deteriorates.
The latest round of blackouts is due to generation units failing at Kusile, Medupi and Arnot power stations, as well as the delayed return of a unit serviced at Tutuka power station. On top of these problems, failure of coal conveyors at Medupi has led to reduced output.
Eskom is appealing to consumers to use electricity sparingly.
