Soweto residents protest outside Eskom headquarters

Some Soweto residents say outages in their area are not related to rolling blackouts.

On Wednesday, they protested at Eskom’s Megawatt Park as the power utility continues to implement higher stages of power cuts.

Eskom implemented Stage 4 power cuts from 2 pm until 10 pm on Wednesday.

The power utility says the blackouts are necessary after the loss of generation units at the Kusile and other power stations.

Eskom says the probability of further power cuts remains high and they have urged all South Africans to reduce their use of electricity.
