Eskom assures SA power will stay on with cold front looming

As various provinces in the country prepare for potentially disruptive snowfall, cold weather, and widespread showers this weekend, Eskom has assured South Africans that it has made provision to ensure the power stays on.

The SA Weather Service has warned of potential disruptive rain along the coastal regions, with a severe low-pressure system expected to develop on Friday.

Meanwhile, in Gauteng, where snow is expected over the next few days, the province’s joint operations committee has urged residents to be alert for icy road conditions and only travel if absolutely necessary.

With the inclement weather likely to cause an increased demand for electricity, Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokoena, said that the power utility had a plan in place.

“With the cold weather expected this weekend, Eskom’s effective implementation of the generation operational recovery plan ensures we have adequate generation capacity to meet the anticipated electricity demand.”
