Scopa reports back after Eskom plant visits
Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts reported on its findings following a two-day visit to the Medupi and Kusile power stations.
The power stations have been running over budget and deadlines.
There’s been more than R19-billion in irregular expenditure and a ballooning debt of R380-billion in the 2017/2018 financial year.
Scopa member Robert Lees said one of the major concerns is the environmental impact of Medupi which currently is not operating within regulatory frameworks on pollution.
Lees also raised ongoing problems with the completion of the construction at Kusile power station and the current reliance on coal.
