KZN working on ensuring schools are ready to be reopened

KwaZulu-Natal is working on ensuring that schools are ready to be reopened, this includes stocking up on PPE.
The Premier of KZN, Sihle Zikalala together with the MEC for Education, Kwazi Mshengu, and the MEC for Health, Nomagugu Simelane Zulu held a press briefing in Mayville, about the state of readiness in opening schools in the province on Sunday.
Zikalala confirmed that several safety tools have been delivered to schools around the province.
“Everyone, parents, teachers, organized labour, workers, we are called upon to embrace the new normal life imposed on us by COVID-19,” the premier said.
Zikalala welcomed private sector donations and commitments to assist in maintaining hygiene at schools.
He announced Bidvest had committed to clean 400 schools in eThekwini, the epicentre of the pandemic in the province.
“Teachers and SMTs will not be expected to report back to school tomorrow. This is to ensure that all the schools have been cleaned and that the delivery of all essentials have reached all our schools. All our teachers will now report on Thursday, 28 May 2020,” the premier said.

Premier @sziks: We will monitor that transport is disinfected on a regular basis. All learner transport will have detergents such as sanitisers. All busses will be sanitized thoroughly. Learners will also be screened upon boarding the busses.

Premier @sziks: A total of 4500 water tanks have been procured and is being delivered to schools. 250 priority schools have received the stock and water tankers are being used to provide water. Water will be available in all schools. Water availability will be checked daily
