England beat India by 31 runs #CWC19

England opener Jonny Bairstow says “To win the toss and bat first it was important to set the platform. It’s been frustrating for the guys, we know how well we can play and today we were pretty good with the bat, ball and in the field and there are more things we can still improve on.

“We were reacting to each ball. having been in the IPL it has helped me play spin and how to build an innings in all conditions. The ball did bits at first, I had some inside edges and you ride your luck when you can.

“It came together today. The closest to a complete performance we have had but we have three must-win games still to come. New Zealand has been terrific so far.”

It was that blitz from Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy that did it for England. No one else was able to score at that rate during the match, with Ben Stokes the only one to come close.

England looked so much better with Roy at the top of the order again.

He and Bairstow put on 160 for the first wicket from 22 overs. England is back in the semi-final places.

If Pakistan beat Bangladesh on Friday, England will still need to beat New Zealand. They are not out of the woods entirely.
