International friendlies: England beat Costa Rica 2 – 0

Marcus Rashford and Danny Welbeck scored either side of the break as England finished their World Cup preparations with a routine 2-0 win over Costa Rica at Elland Road.

Manchester United forward Rashford broke the deadlock with a fierce, dipping strike after 13 minutes, and Arsenal striker Welbeck headed home Dele Alli’s low cross to double the lead with 14 minutes left.

Jordan Henderson, Harry Maguire and Danny Rose all had second-half chances for England, who were largely untroubled by Costa Rica.

The victory means Gareth Southgate’s side will go into their World Cup opener against Tunisia in Volgograd on Monday, 18 June on a 10-game unbeaten run.
