Cape Town justifies higher electricity tariff

Cash-strapped Capetonians have gathered outside the Cape Town Civic Center to protest high electricity tariffs.

Hundreds of people from various political parties, trade unions, and civil society, have handed over a memorandum to the City of Cape Town.

They want to pay the National Energy Regulator’s recommendation of 15.1%.

However, the City argues that its 17.6% is a legally approved tariff.
