ANC leadership concerned as candidates removed from election lists

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has removed some members facing criminal charges from its local government election candidates list.

Among them are Newcastle mayor Ntuthuko Mahlaba and Nkangala mayor Thembi Sarah Masilela.

Mahlaba faces charges of theft, malicious damage to property, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Masilela has appeared in court for fraud and theft.

The charges relate to the use of R248,000 earmarked for Heritage Day celebrations.
