Foreign nationals want IEC to probe election campaigns

The Consortium for Refugees and Migrants in South Africa (CoRMSA) is urging political parties to refrain from using refugees and asylum seekers as scapegoats in their election campaigns.

It says unemployment, corruption, and mismanagement of taxpayers money can’t be blamed on them.

The organization says these statements can be used to lure voters at the cost of foreign nationals.

“We have heard one of the political leaders saying that if he becomes Mayor of COJ he will remove all foreign nationals within the CBD cause they’re the ones that are prohibiting service delivery within the city. It is not true and those statements are unfounded,” said Thifulufheli Sinthumule of CoRMSA.

“We as the Consortium for Refugees and Migrants in South Africa are gathering and monitoring those utterances and statements that provoke and promote hatred on the ground which can lead to xenophobic attacks and social depletion to the IEC for them to investigate all the language that provokes and cause division on the ground in order to gain power and lure the voters to vote for them based on false statements.”
