EFF KZN supports protests over minimum wage in eThekwini
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Kwazulu-Natal is demanding a recovery plan from the eThekwini municipality following days of power and water cuts.
On Tuesday party members embarked on a protest to the Durban City Hall, demanding services be restored.
The protest comes days after municipal workers caused disruption in the city, demanding a living wage.
Many have not returned to work as a result of the dispute.
The EFF in the province said it supports the eThekwini municipal workers protest over wages.
Party KZN Chairperson Mongezi Twala said the municipality should have solved this issue a long time ago.
“Our people cannot be silenced through a piece of paper that their strike is illegal, that is just a red tape to run away from the real issue facing that this governing ANC should have long resolved.”
Party councillors will be locked in meetings with city officials including Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda.
While the strike continues to take a toll on communities, the EFF is demanding a timeline.
“As we speak they are in a meeting our councillors will go back into the meeting and on top of the agenda will be the crisis in eThekwini.”
The municipality said its aware of the electricity crisis and that their technicians are working on it.
