Matric results proof that education system improving, says Cyril Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa said that the matric class of 2023 had made South Africa proud, recording the highest pass rate to date for the country.

The cohort achieved an 82.9% pass rate, an increase of 2.8% from the previous year.

Ramaphosa labelled this as a historic achievement, despite the class of 2023 facing a myriad of challenges, including learning under the difficult COVID-19 pandemic.

The president said this was proof that the education system was steadily improving.

“To achieve an 82.9% pass rate for matriculants, whether they are for bachelors, diplomas or matric certificate, it’s a phenomenal achievement. We should be proud as a nation to have a cohort of young people like them.”
