6 people killed in two separate Eastern Cape accidents

Six people have been killed in two separate accidents in the Eastern Cape.

A sedan and a bakkie collided on the N2 near Qweqwe Village outside Mthatha, claiming the lives of four people.

Three other people, including the driver of the bakkie, were rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

In an earlier accident, two people died in a crash on the R61 between Mthatha and Port St John’s.

“This now takes the number of fatalities to six on our roads from two separate accidents in the past couple of hours,” said Eastern Cape’s Department Transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose.

“The MEC for Transport in the Eastern Cape, Mr Xolile Nqatha, is calling on all road users to be extra vigilant on our roads and help us avoid avoidable crashes like the ones we are seeing claiming so many lives on our roads.”
