E-toll infrastructure to be used to fight crime

Gauteng motorists are waking up to e-toll-free roads.

They will no longer be charged as the unpopular scheme takes an off-ramp.

But, while the system is dead, historic debt still remains on the road.

Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga says the user-pay policy remains in place.

Meanwhile, the e-toll infrastructure will be used to fight crime and help with road safety.

This is according to the Gauteng Transport MEC, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela.
