SA lockdown: Can schools enforce fees payment during the lockdown?

The nationwide lockdown has had a major effect on the economy. President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned that the country will not be spared from job losses. This has made it difficult for some parents to pay school fees. Schools were closed as part of government’s measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Learning continues online for equipped institutions but parents are questioning if they should be paying school fees in full. Legal expert Bulelwa Mabasa from Werksman Attorneys says parents need to negotiate payment with the school.
